Christmas Time is Here with Home Decor

Decor6My apartment, being old and a tad bit shabby, doesn’t really inspire me to decorate. But my significant other got me into the spirit, and thanks to Menards, we found almost everything in one stop. They have a great selection of Christmas trees, lights, inside and outside decor, stockings, wrapping paper, ornaments, wreaths, bows and more. I was really surprised at how much they had!

Though we only really decorated the living room, I think it looks really cozy and festive! I think it’s super easy to overdo it when decorating for the holidays and you want to buy everything in sight (I totally wanted to), but I think the items we have are just enough for this little place without being gaudy.

Decor12My favorite decoration is this little ceramic tree, which my parents gave to me after I begged them not to get rid of it. I’m not sure if it’s because I remember seeing it as a child, or the fact you don’t see many of these anymore, but this piece holds a sentimental place in my heart. It’s old-timey and has a special charm about it.

Decor9I began loving serving trays this year and couldn’t believe my luck when I found this beauty for under $10. I love the snowflake pattern and mirror surface, and it’s the perfect winter accent for my coffee table for my ornament-filled vase, a candle and mug of tea or cocoa!

Callie-Christmas2014I had to add that last photo, taken by Justin of my fur baby, Callie. I love it. She’s so cute!

Decor5Once I have a house in the future, I’d love to have two Christmas trees maybe one real and one fake if plausible. I grew up having a real tree each year and do miss the smell and feeling of pine, but the convenience of a fake tree is really nice, too. Do you prefer real or fake trees? If you like real trees, which type of tree is your favorite?

Decor10For me, Christmas is a time for giving, peace and to celebrate the birth of Christ. I remember God sent his Son into this world to save us all from eternal damnation in a tiny, humble package. Without this ultimate gift, there truly would be no hope. Love came down at Christmas time.

I love your ceramic tree! Decorations from other generations are my favorite because there is always sentimental meaning behind them. I have my grandma’s ceramic village which has miniature ceramic trees in it. She loved Christmas and would love that I set up her village every year!

I’m glad you decorated, too. This is the first year that I hesitated on it, because we aren’t hosting any gatherings. But there is a sense of festivity that I like coming home to each day. And let’s be honest – there would be no decorations here because my husband doesn’t even turn the Christmas lights on (secret Grinch).

Merry Christmas to you and yours! Thanks for always posting something awesome to read!

Thanks for the comment! Christmas decorating is so much fun.
The ceramic villages are so timeless! They’re a really cool thing to see in houses.
I’m not hosting anything either, but I love the cozy feeling the lights on the tree provide when the rest of the house is dark.
      Thank you for reading!

I made a very similar ceramic tree for my Dad in 1977, when he moved into a retirement community. ‘Loved seeing yours and your place looks, lovely, welcoming, warm and festive…good job!!

Beautiful job! Sometimes you just have to embrace the season; joining in can change your outlook. The first thing I do early every a.m. when I get up is plug in the tree – and enjoy it in the dark. I do have a very favorite decoration that is always the first thing each year to be put up…that is my beautiful handcarved nativity from Paul. We had seen it while out shopping and I had admired it but it was crazy expensive – he went back later and bought it for me and was actually able to keep it a secret (hard for him!) Merry Christmas, look forward to seeing you soon!!
